Product Description:
The X20PS9502 is an I/O supply and communication module produced by B & R Automation for its X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on a DIN rail beside CPU and signal units, it distributes regulated power and high-speed serial links to adjacent slices so that remote sensors and actuators can be driven from a central controller. Within an automated line, it maintains voltage integrity and propagates bus data across the X2X backplane.
The module measures supply quality with a resolution of 0.1 V, allowing the CPU to detect small voltage shifts before reaching the bus warning limit of 4.7 V. Deterministic operation is achieved by a minimum cycle time of 100 µs. Within that window, the internal controller gathers local data, forwards it through the X2X interface, and still meets the I/O update requirement of 2 ms. For external serial devices, the RS232 port supports transfer rates up to 115.2 kbit/s, while a CAN channel is available at up to 1 Mbit/s for higher-bandwidth field networks. The backplane draws a maximum of 0.7 A from the CPU supply, and reverse-polarity tolerance is provided so miswired feeders do not damage the electronics. Combined X2X link and internal I/O logic consume 1.64 W and 0.6 W respectively, minimizing cabinet dissipation.
At the machine level, the slice can energize downstream terminals with an I/O output of 24 VDC while sustaining a contact load of 10 A, enough to switch relays or solenoids directly. When ambient temperatures climb, its horizontal mounting orientation can still dissipate 7 W at 45 °C, preventing thermal runaway in densely packed racks. The slim 12.5 mm profile conserves rail space, and an IP20 housing shields live conductors from accidental contact in closed cabinets. To protect actuators, the module signals an I/O undervoltage at 20.4 V, triggering a controlled shutdown before outputs fall below functional limits.
