B&R Automation's X20PS9500/PL3 is a power supply module in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It delivers conditioned power to the CPU backplane, supports CAN and serial signaling, and forms the electrical midpoint between the controller and field terminals in distributed control cabinets. By integrating power distribution with bus coupling, the unit simplifies rack layout and ensures that process signals and supply rails share a common source within standard DIN-mounted enclosures.
The CAN interface moves process data at up to 1 Mbit/s, while the separate RS-232 port tops out at 115.2 kbit/s; these limits set the available speed for diagnostic or maintenance links. The CPU/X2X segment draws a maximum of 0.7 A and can deliver up to 7 W to subsequent modules, with reverse-polarity protection and galvanic supply isolation present on this path. Field terminals receive a stabilized output of 24 VDC, so mixed sensor and actuator groups can be powered directly without secondary regulators. Parallel connection capability allows several supplies to share the same rack, while redundant operation is possible for applications that must continue through a single supply fault.
The output contacts are rated for continuous currents of 10 A, and upstream protection is provided by a 10 A slow-blow fuse on the input side. Internal logic consumes only 0.6 W, and the dedicated X2X link adds another 1.42 W, which helps when calculating cabinet heat load. Environmental protection is limited to an IP20 enclosure, so the module must be mounted in a closed panel. CPU/X2X supply isolation is present, but the I/O supply path is not isolated, which matters when planning common-ground topologies. The design also supports full wiring continuity checks when connected in redundant or parallel power architectures.
