The X20PS9400 power supply module is produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is installed on the DIN rail beside X20 bus controllers and slices, where it furnishes regulated voltages that keep the distributed I/O nodes energized and linked to the control CPU in an automated machine or process cell. Its role is to provide stable power distribution so communication and I/O functions can continue without interruption. Because it sits within the station power path, the module supports both controller-side electronics and the attached I/O segment.
This module draws only 0.2 W of bus power, a minimal load that preserves backplane capacity for the logic controller. From that bus, it can return up to +7 W to peripheral electronics, so local signaling devices can remain powered when external sources are absent. A field-side source of 24 V DC is required at the supply terminals, and that energy supports the logic domain and feeds the I/O rails inside the housing. Internal logic uses just 0.60 W, while the integrated DC-DC converter can deliver up to +240 W for connected output drivers, sensors, and actuators. The X2X link that carries deterministic real-time data adds 0.6 W of its own consumption. Power is separated into the Bus Controller, X2X Link, and Internal I/O domains, which helps isolate faults and verify load distribution.
The outgoing voltages are galvanically isolated as +24 V BC/X2X L, which helps prevent ground loops between the bus controller and the network interface. When safety circuits need a hardware-controlled shutdown, the unit provides a dedicated +24 V I/O rail that can be switched by an external relay or safety module. All connected loads may draw up to 10 A, and an electronic fuse interrupts higher currents before wiring damage occurs. Connection is made through a compact 12-pin front plug, allowing quick replacement while preserving the coded arrangement of the incoming and outgoing conductors.
