Product Description:
The X20MM4455 is a PWM motor module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is installed on a backplane to supply pulse-width modulated power and sense position feedback for low-voltage servomotors in distributed automation nodes. By combining power switching and incremental encoder evaluation, this module drives small actuators while reporting position to the control CPU.
The power stage delivers a continuous output of 6 A and can withstand transient loads up to 10 A, allowing short acceleration peaks without exceeding thermal limits. Logic and sensor circuits operate from a dedicated 5 VDC input, which keeps the signal supply separate from the higher motor voltage. Four input groups are available, and each group contains three individual digital inputs, so the module accepts 4 groups of direct limit-switch or Hall-sensor wiring. The module tolerates supply variation within ±25% of the nominal range, so operation remains stable during brownouts or generator startup. An IP20 housing guards against finger contact and requires installation inside a protected cabinet. The internal current bridges are arranged as four PWM half-bridges, allowing independent single-phase drives or paired H-bridge configurations.
The main power rails accept 24 VDC to 48 VDC, covering common machine safety voltages and allowing one module to serve both 24 V actuators and 48 V conveyors. Mechanical durability includes tolerance to 15 g shock and 1 g vibration, which supports reliable operation on mobile or high-impact machinery. Overvoltage Category II applies to connection on local distribution circuits rather than utility mains. With incremental encoder operation, each motor channel can support a simple speed loop without extra interface cards. The four PWM motor bridges also provide direction-reversible torque under control of the automation system.
