Product Description:
The X20MM2436 module is produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. It combines two integrated motor bridges with local I/O, allowing a controller to drive small DC motors and read feedback through the same compact module. Within an automation rack, the unit supplies pulse-width-modulated power and captures incremental encoder signals, allowing axis positioning or conveyor tracking on distributed nodes. This arrangement reduces the number of separate components needed for basic motion control while keeping motor and feedback connections close to the controlled equipment.
Each bridge operates through a PWM stage that modulates the supply voltage delivered to the motor windings. Continuous load capacity is 3 A, while brief peaks can reach 3.5 A during acceleration. The four digital inputs accept control or limit-switch states at a rated 24 VDC logic level. A dedicated incremental encoder channel timestamps position edges so the controller can perform closed-loop motion control. The two motor bridges share the module’s resources and can operate synchronized or independent axes. The electronics maintain normal operation at elevations up to 2000 m and surrounding air temperatures up to 60 °C when the module is mounted horizontally. Category II overvoltage classification establishes the required clearance and creepage distances from the system bus.
Startup in colder installations is permitted at temperatures down to -25 °C, providing flexibility in unheated environments. The housing carries a protection rating of IP20, so the module must be installed inside a control cabinet while its terminals remain protected against accidental finger contact. The unit withstands shocks up to 15 g, helping protect its solder joints and connectors on equipment exposed to impacts. It also tolerates steady vibration of 1 g, supporting operation near machinery that produces continuous mechanical movement. Relative humidity may reach 95% without condensation, which helps preserve the dielectric integrity of the driver stage in humid operating conditions. The compact design is suitable for material-handling, packaging, and light assembly equipment that requires multi-axis actuation near the point of motion.
