Product Description:
B & R Automation produces the X20MK0203 module for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is a programmable CPU and memory module intended to expand local data processing and parameter storage inside distributed control cabinets. The unit retains application code so operating data remains available after power loss, and it exchanges information with neighboring X20 slices through the internal backplane bus. This arrangement supports decentralized control tasks without requiring a separate standalone controller in every cabinet section.
The module integrates 8 MB of nonvolatile flash memory for application data, stored parameters, and other retained information used by the control system. The flash is rated for 100,000 erase/write cycles, allowing repeated updates during setup and routine service without quickly wearing out the storage area. Continuous operation is supported from 0 to 60 °C, so the unit can be installed in standard electrical enclosures near power electronics when normal cabinet ventilation is available. Its housing has an IP20 rating, and it supports horizontal or vertical mounting on a DIN rail to suit available panel space. Retained memory also helps preserve local values through power cycling.
At elevations up to 2000 m, the operating limits remain unchanged, which allows the module to be used in many industrial locations without additional derating. Above that height, the permissible ambient temperature decreases by 0.5 °C/100 m, which helps protect internal components as thinner air removes heat less effectively. During storage or shipment, the electronics can tolerate temperatures from -40 to 85 °C, reducing the chance of damage before installation and allowing the module to remain stable through common transport and warehouse conditions. These storage limits apply when the unit is not powered.
