Product Description:
The X20IF2792 is a fieldbus input/output module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. By adding this module to a control cabinet, a machine builder can couple a CAN-based sensor network and an internal X2X link in a compact IP20 housing. The unit operates as the interface between distributed I/O stations and the main controller, converting fieldbus telegrams into the X2X protocol so that process data reaches the CPU in deterministic time.
On the CAN side, the module integrates a SJA 1000 controller that exchanges telegrams over a CAN bus at up to 1 Mbit/s. The electrical connection is made through a 5-pin male multipoint connector, and the network can extend to 1000 m when the data rate and cabling meet ISO 11898 limits. The module places only 1.25 W on the system power budget, which helps limit heat in dense racks. For horizontal mounting, it operates from -25 to 60°C, while vertical mounting changes the ambient range to -25 to 50°C. The device transmits the CAN signal as a standard CAN bus data frame, and no additional transceiver card is required.
Toward the controller, the unit functions as an X2X Link master that can supervise up to 253 remote stations spaced no farther than 100 m between repeaters. Communication and 24 V distribution use a 4-pin male multipoint connector positioned on the module’s backplane side. An IP20 protection rating restricts use to enclosed panels free of conductive dust, and the electronics tolerate storage temperatures from -40 to 85°C without degradation. This layout allows the module to connect the X2X backbone and a CAN segment within the same control system. It is suited for enclosed factory automation panels where distributed I/O and controller traffic must pass reliably between separate network layers.
