Product Description:
The X20IF2772 fieldbus module is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is designed to provide a standardized network interface between a programmable logic controller and remote I/O nodes in industrial automation systems. By using controller area network signaling, the module reduces parallel wiring, simplifies panel layout, and permits time-coordinated transfer of process data across multiple machine sections.
Communication takes place over a CAN bus, and the unit offers 2 galvanically isolated interfaces so two independent network segments can be serviced from the same carrier. Each channel supports a maximum data rate of 1 Mbit/s, enabling rapid updates of discrete and analog variables in motion or safety applications. Hot swapping is not permitted, so the carrier must be powered down before the slice is removed or inserted. The keyed terminal block uses 24 VDC power, and all connections are available on a compact backplane with 12 pin terminals that accept typical control wiring ferrules. The internal design is intended for non-condensing operation to help prevent moisture-related signal degradation.
Environmental limits allow installation up to 2000 m above sea level without derating, matching standard control panels in most production plants. Humidity can be as high as 95% provided the air remains non-condensing, which helps the coating and connectors maintain insulation resistance. Thermal endurance depends on mounting orientation; in horizontal orientation, the slice may run at ambient temperatures up to 60 °C, while vertical mounting lowers the ceiling to 50 °C. During cold starts, it continues to operate down to -25 °C, permitting use in unheated warehouses or outdoor cabinets. The lower vertical mounting limit should be considered when the module is installed in tall cabinets with restricted natural airflow.
