Product Description:
The X20IF10X0 is manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. By slotting into an X20 backplane, it provides a fiber-optic uplink that connects distributed I/O stations to a central PLC or a redundant CPU pair. The unit gives the controller deterministic, high-bandwidth access to field signals so that motion profiles, safety interlocks, and process parameters stay synchronized across an industrial installation. This makes the module useful in layouts where remote stations must exchange data quickly without adding electrical noise from long copper network runs.
This module is an Interface Module, so it carries no onboard I/O and instead serves as a communication bridge. Its SFP transceiver complies with the 1000BASE-SX Ethernet standard, sending data over multimode fiber at one gigabit per second by using shortwave laser wavelengths. For multi-controller installations, the built-in sync function supports PLC-PLC Data Sync, allowing deterministic exchange of process images during each scan cycle. Because the unit does not host local I/O channels, its rack position is dedicated to moving data between the backplane and the optical network. Operation is permitted at altitudes up to 2000 m, and the electronics tolerate relative humidity up to 95% RH when the atmosphere remains non-condensing.
One redundant fiber port is present to keep a hot-standby CPU updated, and it provides 1 dedicated link for switchover traffic when controller redundancy is enabled. This function is identified as Controller Redundancy, so communication can continue through the backup path if the primary CPU stops responding. Field wiring enters through a 12-position push-in strip, and the module provides 12 terminal block pins for status lines and supply conductors. The supply rail is keyed for 24 VDC, which helps prevent insertion into slots intended for other voltages. Push-in terminals also allow compact wiring for cabinets where I/O density and orderly cable routing are important.
