Product Description:
The X20IF10G3-1 module is manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is a communication interface card that embeds a real-time network channel inside an X20 I/O slice. By translating fieldbus frames to the internal backplane bus, the part allows the host controller to exchange cyclic process data with distributed sensors and actuators. The compact housing attaches to the right side of a standard X20 power segment without additional wiring and maintains the mechanical keying used throughout the series for straightforward cabinet assembly.
Its communication section is driven by the netX100 multiprotocol controller, which handles frame processing and DMA transfers to local memory. The board presents two shielded RJ45 connectors wired for line redundancy, and link negotiation uses the IEEE autonegotiation function. On the wire, the device follows the 100BASE-TX physical layer and delivers a full-duplex transfer rate of 100 Mbit/s. Within this bandwidth, the module operates as an EtherCAT slave, exporting input and output process images at deterministic cycle times. Autonegotiation matches speed and duplex with connected network equipment, while the dedicated physical controller reduces the processing load on the primary PLC CPU.
The electrical demands are limited to 2 W, so the unit can be powered directly from the X20 backplane without separate supply fusing. Environmental protection is rated at IP20, indicating finger-safe access but requiring enclosure mounting for dusty or wet areas. For horizontally installed racks, the permissible ambient temperature range is -25 to 60 °C; in vertical orientation, the upper limit is 50 °C, and storage is allowed between -40 and 85 °C. Above sea level, the module can be installed up to 2000 m, but the maximum ambient temperature must be reduced by 0.5 °C per 100 m to keep semiconductor junctions within limits. These thermal and altitude limits help determine cabinet airflow, spacing, and mounting direction during machine layout.
