Acting as a dedicated network slave, it delivers cyclic process data and diagnostic information to the controller, reducing parallel wiring runs inside control cabinets. Its compact slice format also lets the interface sit beside local I/O modules on the backplane, keeping network communication and signal distribution in one station.
The module exposes a single communication interface that handles both data exchange and power-over-backplane coupling with neighboring slices. That port communicates through PROFINET IO, so cycle times and device parameters follow the deterministic rules of the open standard. Wiring to the port requires a shielded twisted-pair cable rated CAT 5 SF/UTP, which helps maintain signal integrity for 100 Mbit/s traffic in noisy plant environments.
