The X20IF10E1-1 is a fieldbus interface module produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on the X20 backplane, it provides the network access point for distributed I/O slices and links them to the higher-level controller. Within industrial automation architectures, the module serves as the communication bridge that manages cyclic data exchange, diagnostic messaging, and parameter transfer between the machine controller and decentralized devices. This arrangement lets remote input and output points exchange data without direct point-to-point wiring back to the control cabinet.
The module offers a single network interface, allowing deterministic traffic to pass through one physical connector. It uses the PROFINET IO protocol and operates in the controller role, so it manages data exchange with subordinate devices on the network. Average power draw is only 2 W, which simplifies thermal planning inside densely populated cabinets. When mounted horizontally, the electronics tolerate ambient temperatures up to 60 °C, and convection cooling is sufficient at that limit. In vertical mounting, the maximum ambient temperature drops to 50 °C, and the module starts reliably down to -25 °C for use in cold operating areas. The housing withstands shock loads of 15 g and vibrations up to 1 g without loss of communication. Configuration is carried out through a DTM object, which allows parameter access from standard engineering tools. The conformal design requires non-condensing conditions, so site air must remain free of moisture droplets.
