The X20IF1091 module is a fieldbus communication unit produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. As an I/O system component, it occupies a slot on an X20 backplane and serves as the master that coordinates high-speed data exchange between distributed nodes and the host controller. By providing deterministic timing and diagnostic access, the product supports machine-level networking for complex automation cells.
The module provides one port that operates as an X2X Link Master. This port supplies clocked serial telegrams to remote slices, allowing cycle times in the submillisecond range. The internal electronics draw only 0.97 W, so heat generation remains low and cabinet ventilation requirements are minimal. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, limiting its use to clean electrical enclosures while permitting tool-free direct stacking with adjacent X20 cards. Reliable operation with horizontal mounting is supported at ambient temperatures up to 60 °C. The low power consumption and convection paths built into the housing sidewalls help prevent excessive internal temperatures. The design falls under overvoltage category II, indicating that it is intended for circuits supplied from the facility distribution network rather than for direct connection to external mains power.
With horizontal mounting, the module operates at ambient temperatures as low as -25 °C, enabling use in cold rooms and other unheated industrial spaces. Operation is supported at altitudes up to 2000 m above sea level, so derating is unnecessary for most plant locations. The module can function at relative humidity levels up to 95%, provided condensation is prevented during power-up and operation. It has a shock resistance of 15 g, helping it withstand sudden impacts in mobile machinery or press applications. Its vibration tolerance is 1 g, allowing the module to maintain stable operation when mounted on equipment exposed to continuous mechanical movement.
