Product Description:
The X20IF1082-2 interface module is manufactured by B&R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It acts as a communication point that links distributed sensors and actuators to the central controller through the X20 backplane, expanding fieldbus capability without increasing cabinet footprint. The module is intended for industrial automation tasks that demand deterministic data exchange inside control cabinets. This arrangement helps keep communication functions within the same modular control platform as the surrounding I/O hardware.
It accepts a shielded CAT5 SFTP patch lead for its single interface. Mechanical mounting is on a TH35-7.5 DIN rail, matching the rail size commonly used in control cabinets. Internal electronics are powered from 24 VDC, sourced from the X20 system supply. Two internal switch stages give the module 2 integrated hub ports, which helps reduce the need for separate panel components. Real-time traffic is carried over POWERLINK, providing deterministic synchronization between nodes. Hot swapping is not permitted, so the segment must be shut down before the module is removed or installed.
The station supports Managing or Controlled node operation, allowing it to serve as a network master or as a standard endpoint within the same control architecture. Device parameters reside on an Embedded chip, which supports automatic retention of configuration data during startup. Uptime is further improved by ring redundancy, which keeps telegrams circulating if a cable break occurs. The module also implements the PRC function, allowing process data objects to be forwarded directly to higher-level tasks. Because it is intended for an enclosed control cabinet, the unit relies on the cabinet's ambient airflow for cooling rather than an integrated fan assembly.
