Product Description:
The X20IF1063 is a fieldbus I/O interface module manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed next to the CPU slice, the device provides a dedicated PROFIBUS channel so distributed drives, valves, and safety islands can communicate with the main program without occupying local I/O resources. Within a machine network, the module offloads cyclic data exchange from the controller and maintains deterministic messaging on the backplane. This arrangement separates fieldbus traffic from local signal handling and helps the controller keep program execution and communication tasks organized.
The interface uses a 9-pin female DSUB connector, which is the standard wiring format for PROFIBUS and supports the use of preassembled cables and bus terminators. Frame processing is handled by the VPC3+C ASIC, so telegram timing and error handling follow the PROFIBUS standard independently of PLC scan time. Because the unit operates as a PROFIBUS DP V0 slave, it responds to Class 1 masters and supports cyclic input and output data only. That operating profile keeps communication focused on predictable process data rather than added message services. Typical power draw is 0.87 W, which helps limit heat buildup inside compact cabinets. Environmental protection is rated at IP20, indicating finger-safe openings suited for enclosed control panels.
Flexible mounting is possible because the slice can be snapped into horizontal and vertical orientations, allowing cable routing that matches the panel layout. It occupies a predefined slot in the X20 PLC, so bus power and internal diagnostics are available without external jumpers. This slot-based connection also avoids extra wiring between the CPU and the interface module. Two LEDs labeled module status and data transfer provide direct visual indication of operating state and network activity. On the network side, the interface accepts data rates up to 12 Mbit/s, matching the highest PROFIBUS speed and allowing short cycle times with larger byte counts.
