Product Description:
The X20IF1061 is a communication module released by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus I/O Modules series. It installs on an X20 backplane to provide a dedicated PROFIBUS interface for machines that need distributed digital and analog points. By acting as a fieldbus master, the device coordinates deterministic data exchange between remote I/O slices and the primary control system, supporting real-time sequencing and diagnostics in industrial automation cells. This arrangement allows the controller to exchange process data and status information through the same module used for network communication.
For deterministic bus cycles, the module drives the network at up to 12 Mbit/s. This rate is supported by its integrated PROFIBUS DP V0/V1 master controller, so the unit can handle both cyclic and acyclic services without an external card. Connection to the trunk line is made through a single 9-pin female DSUB connector, allowing standard shielded cabling to be used. Local buffering is handled by 8 MB SDRAM, which stores process images, diagnostic flags, and parameter data while traffic is in transit. Despite the communication bandwidth, overall power draw is only 1.4 W, which helps keep cabinet power demand and thermal load low. The internal microcontroller manages telegram timing, token rotation, and error handling during network operation.
Data capacity on the backplane provides 3.5 kB for input variables and the same amount for output channels, which helps larger process images move without unnecessary splitting. The housing meets the IP20 protection class, indicating finger-safe openings and the need for enclosure mounting when dust or liquids are present. Two LED rows labeled module status, bus status provide live diagnostics for quick status checks and fault tracing. Supervisory software can also poll the embedded EC1 controller for extended statistics such as repeat counts or watchdog events.
