The X20IF1053-1 is a communication module produced by B & R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It serves as a DeviceNet interface that links a distributed sensor-actuator level to the system backplane, giving the controller direct access to process data without external gateways. By integrating this adapter into a machine rack, OEMs can expand a machine’s network reach while retaining the mechanical format and wiring approach common to the X20 platform.
Inside the module, a netX100 network controller handles the DeviceNet protocol in hardware, minimizing PLC load. Bus speed can be set as high as 500 kbit/s, matching the maximum transfer rate allowed by standard DeviceNet cabling. The field connection uses a 5-pin male multipoint connector, so power, CAN signals, and shield share a compact plug. Operating as a DeviceNet adapter (slave), the unit draws no segment power; its logic requires only 1.1 W from the X20 system rail. An integrated, switchable terminating resistor lets installers close the network without external hardware, and altitude derating begins above 2000 m, where the allowable surface temperature drops 0.5 °C per 100 m.
