The X20IF1051-1 is a DeviceNet master interface module built by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on an X20 backplane, it acts as the communication head for distributed I/O segments, allowing the controller to scan and command multiple DeviceNet nodes in industrial automation cells. By combining physical connection, protocol processing, and diagnostic functions into one slice, the unit streamlines network integration between higher-level PLCs and field devices such as drives, valves, and sensors. It is intended for applications where deterministic data exchange and compact cabinet layouts are required.
At the core of the module is the netX100 communication processor, which handles DeviceNet messaging and timing. The network power input is 24 VDC, so the same control supply that feeds the X20 bus can energize the DeviceNet trunk. When acting as a scanner, the interface supervises up to 63 slave nodes, which is the standard DeviceNet node address limit. Cyclic data move across the bus at up to 500 kbit/s, a rate suitable for motion-related axes and other time-critical loads. A built-in integrated terminating resistor eliminates separate end-of-line hardware. The module provides 8 MB of SDRAM for buffering process data, and the field wiring lands on a 5-pin male multipoint connector. This front connection keeps network wiring compact on the module.
The interface can be mounted horizontally or vertically without derating, provided the installation altitude does not exceed 2000 m. Above that elevation, thermal headroom falls by 0.5 °C per 100 m, so ventilation or spacing must be considered in high-altitude sites. The electronics draw only 1.1 W, a low dissipation level that simplifies cabinet cooling. An IP20 housing protects the circuitry from accidental contact and settled dust, matching typical control panels. The housing is intended for installation inside standard control panels and enclosed machine cabinets.
