Product Description:
The X20IF1041-1 is a communication module manufactured by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Mounted next to the CPU and standard I/O slices, it adds a focused CANopen channel to the backplane so the controller can supervise distributed drives, sensors, and actuators on a common bus. The module occupies one slot, draws system power through the internal rail, and is intended to streamline field connectivity in industrial automation segments that demand deterministic, message-based control.
The interface is parameterized through the DTM software object, allowing device descriptions to be stored and transferred directly from the engineering environment. A dedicated netX100 network processor executes protocol tasks independently of the main PLC. Operating as a CANopen master, the slice coordinates node guarding, SYNC objects, and process data for up to 127 slave devices. Communication takes place at up to 1 Mbit/s, which is the maximum standard rate for classic CAN and is suitable for short, high-speed machine segments. Runtime variables and diagnostic frames reside in 8 MB SDRAM, ensuring packet buffering without sacrificing controller memory. Even with this memory and the off-board processor, power draw is only 1.1 W, keeping backplane loading low. The hardware exposes one bus port, which keeps network segmentation straightforward.
An enclosure rating of IP20 designates the slice for cabinet installation where basic finger protection is adequate. Field wiring is performed through a 5-pin male multipoint connector, enabling quick removal during service while preserving shield continuity. For short segments, the integrated terminating resistor can be engaged with a slide switch, eliminating the need for an external 120 Ω plug. The module fits within an 18 mm housing and supports both horizontal and vertical DIN-rail mounting, allowing flexible placement inside compact X20 racks.
