Product Description:
The X20IF1020 communication module is produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It adds a dedicated serial channel to an X20 I/O node so the controller on the backplane can exchange data with external devices such as barcode readers, operator panels, or legacy drives. By connecting directly to the X20 bus, the module integrates serial peripherals into the control system without requiring a separate gateway. This arrangement allows the control program to send commands, receive replies, and monitor device status through the same distributed I/O station used by the rest of the machine.
For horizontal mounting, the permissible ambient range extends from -25 °C to 60 °C, allowing use in both cold and warm enclosures. The unit draws control power from the X20 system supply at 24 VDC, so no separate power line is needed for the module itself. Communication is handled through one RS232 port with asynchronous transmission rates up to 115.2 kbit/s. That speed covers common settings for diagnostics consoles, sensor heads, and simple HMI terminals. The interface parameters can be adjusted in the automation software so baud rate, parity, and flow control match the connected device.
The module can be operated at elevations up to 2000 m without derating, and reliable function is maintained at humidity levels up to 95% RH when condensation is prevented. It provides 1 interface, which keeps the hardware compact while still supporting the most common point-to-point serial tasks on an X20 station. Clear product markings on the housing make the unit easy to identify, and front status LEDs show channel activity during startup, wiring checks, and normal communication. This visual indication helps confirm whether the serial link is active without adding separate diagnostic hardware.
