The X20DS438A is a fieldbus I/O module built by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It combines digital input and output channels with IO-Link master functionality, allowing connection of standard 24 V sensors and actuators while also communicating with smart IO-Link devices. Within an automation system, the module transfers process data between remote sensors and the central controller and supports time-critical synchronization over the network. By handling standard switching signals and intelligent device communication in one slice, it can reduce the need for separate interface hardware in a compact I/O station. This makes it suitable for machine sections where local signals and serial sensor data must be gathered at the same network node.
The digital section operates from a supply of 24 VDC, so wiring can follow common control-level power standards.
