Product Description:
The X20DS4389 is a digital I/O slice manufactured by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The slice combines both input and output channels on one compact carrier and links to the system backplane through an X20 bus coupler. Within an automation rack, it provides discrete signal exchange between field devices and the controller, allowing state detection and actuator driving inside machines and process skids.
This module offers 4 digital input channels that accept a nominal 24 VDC signal, and four transistor outputs that can source up to 0.1 A per point at the same supply level. Category II surge withstand capability protects the electronics when mounted in building-level distribution panels. The housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation inside a control cabinet where protection against finger contact is provided, but dust ingress must still be considered. NetTime and oversampling functions let the controller capture input edges or update outputs with sub-cycle resolution, and both services rely on the integrated bus clock without adding CPU load. With very low jitter, the slice cooperates with process modules that need synchronous I/O exchange.
Environmental tolerance supports deployment from sea level up to 2000 m, at ambient moisture not exceeding 95% RH without condensation. Mechanical stresses are handled through a design verified for 15 g shock pulses and continuous vibration of 1 g, maintaining signal integrity during mobile machinery operation. Sixteen terminal pins on the removable connector speed field wiring and allow full channel use while preserving the module width. Time-domain alignment with the host network is maintained with microsecond precision, so output sequences remain phase-locked even when several distributed slices share one task. This timing behavior supports coordinated high-speed switching across an I/O segment without external timing hardware.
