The X20DS4389 is a module from B & R Automation which is a part of the X20 Series of modules, and is used for digital signal processing in industrial automation systems. This module is provided with 4 digital input channels where these can accept up to 24VDC nominal voltage and has a nominal current of approximately 1.3 mA. Apart from the input channels there are 4 Programmable Digital Input/Output Channels available on X20DS4389.

Another thing that sets the X20DS4389 apart is the high-resolution timestamping capability of the device with 125ns precision. This high-resolution timestamp capability is for applications that have need of timing and synchronization such as high-speed data acquisition, motion control, and event logging. The module also incorporates edge detection with microsecond speed, thus enabling it to identify quick variations in signal states. It consists of 4 edge detection units allowing it to deal with several signal transitions in a proper manner. The module is designed to run with the internal I/O power consumption of 1.5 W. The module also has the input/output scan rate of 25 microseconds at the oversampling mode.

With respect to output functionality, the module has a maximum output voltage of 24 VDC and maximum output current of 0. 1 A per channel, and a total nominal current of 0.4 A for all the outputs.
