Product Description:
The X20DS1119 is a compact fieldbus input/output slice manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. This module plugs into an X20 backplane to capture fast digital signals and to drive low-energy outputs inside distributed control systems. By combining 24 V and 5 V channels on one unit, it bridges standard sensor wiring with high-speed logic levels, allowing synchronized handling of encoders, counters, and motion generators without requiring multiple specialty cards. Its mixed-signal layout is useful in compact control stations where pulse capture and signal distribution must share the same hardware slot. This reduces the need for separate interface slices when both industrial sensors and TTL-level devices are present on the same node.
The 24 V section provides 2 channels that accept edge changes up to 100 kHz, so proximity switches or incremental tracks can be read without missing pulses. A separate 5 V front end offers 3 channels for TTL devices, and each of these inputs can acquire events at up to 600 kHz. Even at these rates, the slice loads the system bus by only 0.01 W, which minimizes heat inside densely packed control cabinets. The module also includes one SSI encoder interface operating at 1 Mbit/s, while a dedicated universal counter pair shares the same timing base to measure frequency or period directly.
The output side sources up to 65 mA per 5 V line and can toggle that load at 500 kHz, enabling deterministic drive of LEDs, shutters, or comparator references. Internal I/O electronics draw just 1.5 W, leaving ample power budget on the backplane for additional slices. The housing meets IP20, so the module is intended for enclosed panels where finger protection is sufficient. One integrated linear motion generator also supports synchronized step generation, giving the control system a single-slot option for counting, timing, and rapid signal distribution within the automation cell.
