Product Description:
B&R Automation manufactures the X20DOF322, a digital output unit in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The module fits on a fieldbus backplane and supplies switchable DC power to actuators such as solenoid valves, lamps, or contactors. By converting internal logic commands into discrete voltage levels for external devices, it links the controller’s program to real-world machine elements in distributed industrial automation architectures. Its compact housing is suited for control cabinets where modular expansion is required.
The output section is designed for a nominal bus voltage of 24 VDC, and it presents 16 individually driven sourcing channels. Each channel can deliver up to 0.5 A, while the module as a whole may conduct 8 A through its common terminal block. To keep heat generation low on the backplane, bus-side power draw is limited to 0.28 W, and surface openings support convection across the side walls of the enclosure. The housing has an IP20 protection rating against accidental finger contact. Output transistors use a sourcing configuration, so positive voltage is switched to the load. One-wire spring terminals accelerate installation compared with multi-conductor blocks, and during normal operation the leakage current with the output de-energized is 5 μA, minimizing false state detection by connected devices.
Internal circuit supply is rated at 0.95 W, and actuator dissipation of +0.56 W is added when all outputs are active. Isolation between logic and field wiring is verified for 500 Veff, providing separation from neighboring modules. Protection against wiring faults is provided by a peak short-circuit current limited to <3 A and automatic shutdown triggered within a 10 ms monitoring window. Resistive loads can be switched up to 500 Hz, enabling high-frequency pulse modulation for heaters or LEDs. The source output topology and one-wire connectors simplify panel layout while the module maintains stable operation during normal load conditions.
