Product Description:
The X20DO8331 is a digital output slice manufactured by B & R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on an X20 bus base, the slice functions as an interface between the controller and 24 V actuator circuits commonly found in conveyors, assembly stations, and packing lines. It accepts logical commands from the CPU and switches external loads through semiconductor outputs, thereby enabling deterministic machine control without the footprint of standalone relays.
The module provides 8 independent output channels that share a common negative potential. Each channel is engineered for a nominal field voltage of 24 VDC and can safely sink up to 2 A of load current, allowing direct connection of solenoids or lamp arrays without intermediate amplifiers. Because the switching element operates in sink mode, the load receives the positive supply and the module completes the return path to ground. State information is transferred as a digital signal to the backplane, giving the PLC a clear on/off image without the latency of analog conversion. A separate power-supply slice is unnecessary because incoming field power is routed to the outputs by a feed located directly on the module.
The I/O wires are clamped with the Push-In connector system, so conductors are inserted without screws while a release pin supports safe removal during service. A detachable terminal block lets harnesses be preassembled offline and connected during installation, and its tool-free wiring method keeps cabinet work consistent across the X20 family. Each spring cage accepts two ferruled leads up to 2× 0.75 mm², which simplifies daisy-chaining diagnostic supply loops. For troubleshooting, probe access is available at the front edge, and because the supply is routed on the module itself there is no need to insert an auxiliary feed element.
