Product Description:

The X20DO8232 digital output module is built by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It occupies one slot on an X20 bus adapter and provides discrete control points for low-voltage loads in industrial automation cells. By sourcing current to solenoids, contactors, or indicator lamps, the unit converts logical commands from a PLC into physical actuation. The module fits inside a compact rack, shares backplane communications, and supports deterministic response times required in machine sequencing. Its modular format also keeps I/O expansion within the same control platform, so wiring and signal handling remain organized inside the cabinet.

Eight low-side channels are provided, giving the module 8 digital outputs that are wired through a 1-wire spring clamp connector. Each channel uses a current-sourcing FET structure configured as a source circuit, so the load returns to the negative rail. The outputs are designed for a nominal field supply of 12 VDC, and each channel can continuously deliver 2 A without derating. Protective dielectric spacing between the module electronics and the actuator side is rated for 500 Veff. A 10 A slow-blow fuse on the power feed limits catastrophic faults, while logic supervision suppresses spurious alarms by introducing a 10 ms monitoring delay. When a channel is off, only 5 µA can flow toward the load, which helps limit unintended energizing of connected devices.

Internal consumption remains low; the backplane sees only 0.22 W, and the field side draws 0.82 W for logic and diagnostic circuits. Because the switching stage is fed by an external actuator supply, the eight channels together must not exceed 8 A in continuous service. Mechanical protection reaches the IP20 level, making the card touch-safe when inserted into a shielded rack but unsuitable for unprotected outdoor use. Separate backplane and field-side power figures help distinguish module overhead from actuator loading in the control cabinet. The bus-side electronics remain separate from the actuator supply path, which keeps the control side distinct from switched field power.
