B & R Automation’s X20DO6639 is a relay output slice in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The module offers six normally-open relay channels, each able to switch 30 VDC or 240 VAC loads, letting a controller actuate contactors, pilot lights, or similar circuits. Installed on the X20 backplane, it serves as a discrete output point by translating fieldbus commands into galvanically isolated contact closures suited to industrial automation equipment.
The logic section draws only 1 W from the bus, minimizing heat inside the control cabinet. To verify insulation integrity, the manufacturer specifies a channel-to-bus dielectric withstand of 2300 VAC and a channel-to-channel withstand of 750 VAC; these test voltages confirm that a fault on one output does not propagate to adjacent circuitry. Each relay can continuously conduct a nominal load current of 2 A, and contact resistance is held below 100 mΩ to limit I²R losses. The mechanical armature closes in no more than ≤10 ms, giving the deterministic reaction time required for PLC-driven sequencing, while single-channel isolation simplifies field grounding schemes.
Durability is addressed through an electrical endurance of 120 000 operations at rated load and a mechanical life exceeding 20 000 000 switching cycles, enabling long maintenance intervals. The front housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for mounting inside an enclosure that prevents dust intrusion and accidental contact. During service the relays may switch up to 264 VAC or 110 VDC, and the aggregate current across all six channels must stay below 10 A to avoid thermal overload. These limits, combined with the bus and channel insulation data, define safe operating margins for the output module.
