The X20DO4649 is a relay output module produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed for distributed control cabinets, the unit converts controller-level signals into mains-rated switching actions for actuators and motor starters. By offering electromechanical isolation between the PLC backplane and field wiring, it supports reliable load handling in conveyor segments, packaging lines, and general machine-building cells. Integration occurs over the series’ standard remote backplane.
Each of the module's 4 output channels employs a normally open relay configuration that can switch up to 240 VAC with a continuous load of 5 A. Internal silver-alloy contacts present only 100 mΩ of resistance, so heating and energy loss remain minimal. These values set the allowable switching range for connected field devices. Overvoltage Category II qualification authorizes installation on feeders downstream of building wiring, and contact life is extended by limiting inrush currents through proper load selection. The module’s four points are isolated from the logic side by electromechanical gaps, preventing leakage currents that could otherwise disturb analog sensing circuits.
The operating environment must stay within the stated temperature, humidity, and mounting limits. The housing carries an IP20 ingress rating for finger protection but no dust sealing, so it must sit inside a closed panel. When mounted horizontally, the permissible ambient reaches 60 °C, while vertical orientation reduces this margin to 50 °C. Cold-start capability extends down to -25 °C, and operation is permissible in atmospheres up to 95% RH without condensation, even during rapid humidity changes common near washdown stations. The design endures 1 g vibration, 15 g shock, and elevations up to 2000 m during operation.
