B&R Automation's X20DO4623 is an AC output module in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It inserts into the system backplane and presents semiconductor switches that let a PLC command mains-powered actuators directly. By offering an integrated solid-state alternative to external relays, the slice reduces panel space and wiring effort while still providing repeatable control for pumps, contactors, or indicator circuits in industrial automation. The compact module is intended for distributed I/O stations where dependable switching of line-powered loads is needed without the contact wear associated with electromechanical relay outputs.
The module drives 4 channels that share an SSR switching topology, so each path is free of mechanical wear and silent in operation. Every channel can source up to 0.5 A, yet the slice restricts aggregate load to 1 A to stay within its thermal envelope. Loads may be connected anywhere between a line voltage of 264 VAC and a guaranteed conduction threshold of 75 VAC. The internal L-switching circuit disconnects the line side, integrated zero-cross logic minimizes turn-on transients, and field wiring follows a 2-wire scheme that pairs each output with a common conductor. A residual voltage of 1.6 V appears across a conducting switch, and no-load leakage is limited to 1.5 mA at 240 V.
Total thermal loss inside the output section is governed by an actuator dissipation of 3.2 W. The remaining electronics draw 0.52 W on the backplane and 0.38 W from the external supply, so the module places part of its demand on the station bus and part on the field supply. The channel drivers are galvanically separated from logic by 2500 VAC of channel-to-bus insulation, allowing the field side to reference line voltage while the controller remains at SELV levels. An enclosure rating of IP20 permits installation in ventilated cabinets where basic finger protection is sufficient, and the stated power consumption values help size the supporting power supply and cabinet thermal management.
