Product Description:
The X20DO4331 is a digital output module produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is installed on remote I/O nodes to switch actuators and indicators in industrial automation cells. Each channel connects to external loads while the module exchanges process data over the X20 system backplane.
This unit provides 4 individually controllable outputs designed for a nominal field supply of 24 VDC. Each channel can deliver up to 2 A of load current through a sink-type output circuit, and the group is galvanically isolated from the controller by 500 Veff. The MOSFET stage exhibits an on-state resistance of 35 mΩ, which helps keep conduction losses low during continuous operation. A 3-wire terminal system routes the load, supply, and reference conductors, while the IP20 housing limits finger access but requires enclosure mounting for harsher zones. Off-state leakage remains below 75 µA so sensitive coils stay de-energized when channels are inactive. The module detects overload or wire break conditions and sets diagnostic bits after a brief filter interval, and short-circuit-proof switching elements allow the outputs to switch on again once the fault clears.
The power budget is sized for machine racks that share a 24 V bus. During normal duty, the module adds 0.56 W of heat because of transistor conduction and generates a control-side demand of 0.16 W on the backplane, while internal logic and LED indicators draw another 0.49 W. The 8 A group limit ensures the connector pins are not overstressed when several channels switch simultaneously. Diagnostic latency is fixed at 10 ms, allowing the PLC program to react rapidly without nuisance trips. An actuator auxiliary rail supplies 0.5 A for sensor or relay feed lines, and the design is certified as short-circuit proof so cleared faults do not require module replacement.
