Product Description:
The X20DM9324 digital I/O module is manufactured by B&R Automation for integration within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed for DIN-rail mounting in IP20 control cabinets, it presents a compact slice that pairs eight input circuits with four output drivers. Within industrial automation networks, the device bridges sensors, switches, relays, and small actuators to a central PLC, allowing time-synchronous data exchange without separate terminal blocks or dedicated power distribution hardware.
The module operates from a nominal field supply of 24 VDC, a level compatible with most machine safety circuits and proximity sensors. Its input side accepts 8 discrete sink-type channels that follow the IEC Type 1 characteristic, while the output side provides 4 current-sourcing FET channels for direct coil or LED loads. Consumption from the backplane is limited to 0.21 W, and an additional 0.5 W is drawn from the internal I/O rail, minimizing heat generation inside densely packed enclosures. These low power figures reduce demands on the cabinet's 24 V supplies and ease thermal management when multiple slices are stacked in sequence.
Electrical separation between channel electronics and the system bus is rated at 500 Veff, providing basic protection against cross-coupled transients that can arise during field wiring faults. Output drivers support a steady load of 0.5 A per channel, with a combined limit of 2 A so loads can be distributed without exceeding trace limits. A factory-set input filter of 1 ms suppresses contact bounce while preserving response time for faster PLC scan rates. Additional operating details include a default off-state leakage of 5 µA, a 10 ms monitor delay that flags stalled outputs, and an IP20 housing that permits tool-free module replacement while power remains on the backplane.
