The X20DIF371 is a digital input slice from the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series manufactured by B&R Automation. Within a distributed control system, this part collects on/off signals from field sensors and transfers them to a host PLC over the X20 backplane, allowing the controller to monitor discrete states such as limit switches, pushbuttons, and proximity detectors. This type of module is used when a machine controller needs clear status information from standard discrete devices without converting analog values or adding separate interface relays.
The module provides 16 electrically isolated inputs that share a common internal supply and require a Sink wiring scheme, meaning current flows into the device from the sensor. Each channel is designed for a nominal level of 24 VDC, so matching field wiring to this voltage helps prevent false transitions and unreliable state changes. Reliable startup is maintained down to -25°C, which supports cold-room machinery, while a horizontal installation may reach ambient temperatures of 60°C without derating. The circuitry also tolerates installation heights up to 2000 m, matching typical plant elevations before reduced air density begins to affect cooling or dielectric spacing. Humidity can rise to 95% RH provided the atmosphere remains non-condensing, and the overvoltage category II classification indicates the impulse levels the inputs must withstand relative to the system supply.
