The X20DID371 is a digital input module manufactured by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Classified as a digital input module, it serves as a front end for discrete sensors by translating on-machine switching states into protocol words for the system controller. Installed alongside other slices on an X20 backplane, it supports compact decentralized I/O stations used in packaging, material handling, and general machinery. This arrangement lets the controller monitor limit switches, proximity sensors, and similar devices through a modular I/O node rather than through individually wired cabinet hardware.
The module provides 8 digital inputs, and each channel is intended for a nominal 24 VDC signal level. Because the input circuits use sink polarity, field devices must source current into the common internal reference. Field wiring terminates on a 16-pin terminal block, and the push-in spring contacts accept ferruled conductors without a tool. The slice mounts on an EN 60715 (TH35-7.5) rail used by the X20 platform, which keeps module installation consistent across adjacent I/O slices. Clearance of 35 mm above and below with 10 mm at the sides should be maintained for airflow and terminal access. Module depth is set by the backplane carrier, so the lower clearance mainly protects the connection interface and leaves room to remove the pluggable terminal.
When the slice is mounted horizontally, it can operate at temperatures up to 60 °C and can cold-start at temperatures down to -25 °C. The electronics tolerate up to 95% non-condensing humidity, so moisture may be present in the air but condensation on the module must be avoided. Operation is permitted at elevations up to 2000 m before derating is required. These limits fit enclosed machine installations where ambient conditions can vary during daily operation.
