Product Description:

The X20DI8371 is a digital input module built by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on a compact X20 backplane, the unit expands a controller’s input map by accepting 24-volt field signals from proximity switches, photocells, and mechanical contacts. By translating field-level states into a format readable by the system bus, the device lets the control system gather high-speed on and off information without adding a full remote I/O station. This helps reduce panel space and wiring in industrial automation cells.

This module offers 8 channels, and each one is configured for a Sink topology, which means current flows into the module from the field sensor when a logic 1 signal is present. Every input is designed for a nominal field level of 24 VDC, so standard industrial sensors can be wired without level shifting. Internally, the electronics that communicate with the backplane draw only 0.13 W of bus-module power, while the communication portion consumes an additional 0.18 W from the system rail. These low values reduce heat generation inside densely populated racks and allow the host power supply to support more I/O slices.

Field energization is supplied separately, and the combined load from the eight input LEDs and protection circuits peaks at 1.2 W. Even when all channels are active at the same time, total thermal loss for the slice remains limited to 1.51 W, which simplifies enclosure ventilation calculations. The compact design enables high channel density without sacrificing the noise immunity associated with B&R Automation hardware. Because it shares the mechanical and electrical profile of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series, the X20DI8371 can be inserted next to analog, relay, or safety slices without special mounting considerations.
