Product Description:
The X20DI6553 is a digital input module manufactured by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Intended for decentralized control architectures, the unit routes field-level status signals such as limit switches, sensors, or push buttons to a PLC or motion controller. Its slim housing clips into a shared backplane carrier so that multiple I/O slices can be combined on the same machine rail, which helps keep distributed control assemblies compact and orderly.
Field wiring enters the module through push-in terminals, a connection style that accepts stripped conductors without a screwdriver and supports quick, secure attachment. The slice offers 6 input channels, enabling individual signal monitoring without additional expansion hardware. Each channel accepts 100 to 120 VAC, which matches standard North American control voltages and removes the need for step-down transformers in many cabinets. To protect upstream electronics, the inputs are galvanically isolated, so mains-referenced noise does not propagate to the internal logic. Mechanical integration is simplified by top-hat rail mounting, allowing the module to snap directly onto a 35 mm DIN rail inside the enclosure.
The module occupies one carrier position yet internally contains 3 submodules, an arrangement that separates the input circuits into smaller processing groups and supports clearer fault localization. A molded guide with voltage keying at 240 VAC helps prevent accidental insertion into a rack location intended for lower-level signals. Cable preparation remains consistent because the terminal cage accepts 2 × 0.75 mm² wire sleeves, covering common conductor sizes used in control cabinets. This layout keeps the wiring side organized while maintaining separation between field voltage and the module’s internal electronics.
