Product Description:
The X20DI6371 is a discrete input module produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit captures 24 VDC status signals from sensors or switches. It relays those on or off states over the X20 backplane so the host PLC can track machine positions, limit detectors, and other binary devices used throughout industrial automation cells.
At a nominal system supply of 24 VDC, the module offers 6 independent input points. These channels follow the Type 1 characteristic and share a sink wiring scheme, so each sensor sources current into the common ground rail. The input path draws a typical 3.75 mA through an internal 6.4 kΩ resistor, producing a valid logic-high once the field level rises above the >15 VDC threshold and forcing a logic-low below the <5 VDC point. A hardware filter of ≤100 µs blocks microsecond-length transients, while an additional software filter can be enabled if longer debounce is required. Communication over the backplane consumes only 0.15 W of bus power, and the slim housing carries an IP20 degree of protection suitable for placement inside closed control cabinets.
The internal electronics require 0.88 W of I/O power, a value that must be considered when sizing the segment supply for adjacent modules. Signal and backplane domains are isolated to 500 Veff, which helps prevent ground loops between field devices and the CPU. This separation also helps reduce unwanted interference between field wiring and controller electronics. When the optional programmable filter remains at its factory setting of 1 ms, switch bounce from mechanical contacts is removed without delaying standard updates. The shared source line may carry up to 0.5 A; at that loading the distribution rail experiences a worst-case voltage drop of 2 VDC, so conductors should be sized to keep the effective field voltage at the terminals within acceptable limits.
