Product Description:
The X20DI2372 is a digital input unit built by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The component snaps onto an X20 backplane and exposes two 24 V sensor terminals to the control network, allowing a PLC or motion controller to read on/off states from proximity switches, push buttons, or limit sensors. By converting field-level voltages into clean logic telegrams on the system bus, the module forms a compact interface layer that routes discrete machine feedback into higher-level automation software.
The input stage is divided into 2 electrically isolated channels arranged in a Source topology, so each field device provides its positive line while the module references the system common. Logic thresholds are calibrated for 24 VDC nominal, giving predictable switching margins when powered from the cabinet’s auxiliary supply rail. Proper operation is maintained during cold starts at -25 °C, so seasonal temperature drops do not interfere with signal integrity. When the slice is mounted horizontally on the DIN rail, board temperature may climb to 60 °C without functional loss, a limit that covers most forced-air or sealed-cabinet cooling scenarios found in industrial skids.
For enclosures where the carrier is mounted vertically, the upper ambient limit decreases to 50 °C, acknowledging the reduced natural convection path along the PCB. Protective coatings and gasket design allow continuous service at humidity levels up to 95% RH without condensation-induced leakage across the optocouplers. Performance figures remain unchanged at elevations reaching 2000 m, so line equipment installed on high-altitude sites can retain identical PLC configurations. These operating limits allow the B & R Automation module to be integrated into conveyor controls, packaging machines, and utility skids exposed to variable climates.
