The X20DC2190 slice from B&R Automation belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. This unit occupies a single slot on the system backplane and converts incoming sensor events into countable data for the CPU, helping coordinate position tracking and cut-to-length tasks on packaging, printing, and assembly machines. Its slice format enables seamless integration on the X20 backplane while maintaining the compact footprint expected in fieldbus nodes. Installation involves snapping the housing onto a DIN rail and latching the carrier connector into place.
At the hardware level, the module is classified as a Digital Counter Module, meaning its onboard logic converts high-frequency pulse trains into numerical values that the PLC can read directly. It is calibrated for Ultrasonic Path Measurement, so the timing of reflected sound pulses is translated into linear distance data. The electronics support 4 independent path detection channels, allowing simultaneous monitoring of multiple ultrasonic sensors, while the housing provides receptacles for 2 exchangeable path-measuring rods that establish the acoustic travel corridor. For electrical safety inside switchgear assemblies up to 300 V, the board follows overvoltage category II, which limits transient energy that may reach the internal signal paths.
