Product Description:
The X20DC1376 is a single-slot counter and encoder interface unit manufactured by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It extends an X20 remote I/O station with dedicated position acquisition so that the central controller can synchronize motion axes, monitor conveyor speed, or trigger event-based outputs directly from field feedback. Its primary purpose in industrial automation is to translate high-resolution incremental encoder signals and counter pulses into deterministic values that drive controllers and PLCs can process in real time.
The module provides 1 counter channel that can be configured for up/down or frequency counting modes. The differential inputs accept an incremental ABR signal set and can supply the transducer with 24 V, so no external power supply is required. Inside the ASIC, the edges are evaluated at 4x resolution, meaning every rising and falling edge of channels A and B contributes to the position tally. To avoid pulse loss on fast machines, the capture front end supports a maximum input frequency of 100 kHz. Encoder monitoring allows the controller to detect cable breaks or signal loss and react before these conditions lead to mechanical faults.
The firmware also supports the Nettime function, enabling time-stamped samples so distributed nodes can align their data with a common clock. Electrical insulation meets overvoltage category II, providing adequate clearance for standard low-voltage control panels. With a protection rating of IP20, the module is designed for cabinet installation where protection against contact and solid-object ingress is required. The module withstands shocks of up to 15 g during transport and operation. It also tolerates continuous vibration of 1 g across the applicable frequency range, supporting stable operation in high-speed packaging lines and material-handling systems.
