The X20DC1196 is a state-of-the-art digital counter module designed by B &R Automation to improve communication in industrial automation systems. This unit is built according to international standards; it provides a smart and safe way for operators to handle digital signals without directly interfering with industrial production processes. The housing of this module is covered with a protective coating that prevents interference from condensation and corrosive gases. There is an ABR incremental encoder signal interface present in this unit, this interface allows for the quick detection of position and angular changes in the ABR encoder, which is widely used in servo systems. The X20DC1196 features a digital status indicator that is connected to the power supply unit and provides information about operating status and the module status.

The internal input and output unit of the X20DC1196 consumes about 1.5 kilowatts of electrical power, about 0.01 watts is also consumed at the bus connector. Only properly shielded signal lines should be used with this product, as this will significantly reduce electrical interference during operation. The X20DC1196 operates with a 3-wire connection type; its input resistance is also estimated to be about 7.19 kiloohms. A home enable switch is also provided as an additional function on the module.

The X20DC1196 is able to withstand a wide temperature range, during its operation, ambient temperature levels should be maintained between -25 to about 60 degrees Celsius. If the module is mounted vertically, ambient temperature should not exceed 50 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels for this product should be between 5 and 95 per cent, and water condensation should also be avoided. Installation of this product should be maintained between 0 to 2000 meters, if the installation height exceeds 2000 meters, operators are required to reduce ambient temperature around the unit by 0.5 degrees for every 100 meters increase in height.
