Product Description:
The X20CS1070 communication slice is produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is a fieldbus coupler that links distributed I/O stations to a CAN-based control network, transferring process data between sensors, actuators, and the central PLC. Within an automation rack, it occupies one terminal width and receives power and backplane signals from the adjacent supply module, forming part of a modular system that minimizes wiring and eases maintenance. The unit targets machine and plant builders who require deterministic bus performance as well as compact housing.
Communication occurs over the CAN Bus, providing 1 Mbit/s arbitration and cyclic data exchange compatible with common motion and process controllers. The slice contains 1 integrated CAN channel on the internal backplane; this single port is sufficient for node addressing while keeping the module width to 12.5 mm. Safe operation is specified for temperatures down to -25°C, allowing cold-room or outdoor panel startup, and up to 60°C in horizontal orientation without forced cooling. An IP20 housing prevents finger contact with live parts yet requires installation inside a control cabinet. The design meets Overvoltage Category II, so transients present on typical factory power networks do not damage the internal transceiver.
When the rack is mounted vertically, convective airflow is reduced and the permissible operating temperature declines to 50°C. Environmental tolerances also include exposure to up to 95% non-condensing relative humidity, so enclosures lacking full climate control can still host the module if condensation is avoided. Signal timing remains stable at altitudes up to 2000 m, eliminating the need for parameter adjustments in most regional installations. Mechanical ruggedness is confirmed by shock resistance of 15 g and continuous vibration endurance of 1 g, ensuring the housing, connectors, and PCB maintain integrity on mobile equipment or machines subject to reciprocating loads.
