Product Description:
The X20CS1012 is a compact communication slice produced by B & R Automation for its X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on a backplane beside digital or analog I/O slices, this unit serves as a fieldbus coupler that links the local X20 node to higher-level controllers. It is intended to manage M-Bus field devices, letting an automation system read consumption or status data from energy meters and other sensors without separate gateways. Because it serves as the communication interface for the node, local slices can exchange process data through the same modular assembly.
This slice communicates over the M-Bus protocol and exposes a single port that operates in the Master role, so one interface can poll multiple slaves in sequence. Electrical connections are made through a 16-pin terminal block, which simplifies daisy-chain wiring inside a control cabinet. The overvoltage category II rating indicates insulation clearances for use on low-voltage building circuits. For horizontal mounting, the electronics can operate from -25 to 60 °C; in vertical orientation, the upper limit is 50 °C. An enclosure rating of IP20 means the housing is finger-safe but should be installed inside a protective enclosure when airborne debris is present. Mechanical durability includes shock resistance of 15 g and vibration tolerance of 1 g across the stated frequency range, helping maintain stable operation during machine movement. Overall depth is 75 mm, allowing the module to fit shallow control panels.
The module can operate from sea level up to 0 to 2000 m without derating and at ambient moisture levels of up to 95% non-condensing. Cabinet space is conserved by its slim 12.5 mm width, while the front face stands 99 mm tall to align with adjacent X20 slices for uniform airflow. These dimensions allow dense side-by-side stacking without obstructing ventilation paths. The housing format also helps keep the node compact when several slices are mounted in one control cabinet.
