It functions as the central processor in a distributed X20 system, running control programs, handling deterministic communication, and synchronizing the attached I/O slices used on production lines and motion assemblies. With overall dimensions of 99 mm in height, 200 mm in width, and 85 mm in depth, the unit fits on a standard DIN rail and provides a compact alternative to an industrial PC. This layout suits control cabinets where space is limited but direct integration with modular I/O is still required.
A clock frequency of 1.0 GHz delivers real-time task execution, while the integrated 256 MB DDR2-SDRAM stores active variables, buffers, and operating system components. Nonvolatile backup for critical data is handled by 1 MB SRAM, helping preserve retained values during sudden shutdowns, and application code is loaded from CompactFlash media. The controller dissipates only 8.8 W, and its fanless design eliminates moving parts that could draw in dust or add mechanical wear. Three interface slots accept additional X20 communication or special-function modules, which allows the base unit to support different machine networks without changing the controller.
