The X20CP3583 is a CPU module produced by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit provides embedded control capabilities, running application code, managing deterministic bus traffic, and forwarding diagnostics so that an X20 slice station can function as a compact PLC within automated lines. Installed on the same carrier rail as the I/O terminals, it interfaces with field sensors, motion drives, and supervisory networks to coordinate sequences, alarms, and data logging.
The module uses an Atom E620T processor that clocks at 333 MHz, and it is paired with 128 MB DDR2 SDRAM for dynamic program execution. Maximum CPU supply current is 1.5 A during intensive tasks, and three configurable interface slots allow expansion with additional communication cards. One CompactFlash slot supports removable storage for application data and recipe files. Its onboard electronics meet protection class IP20 for cabinet mounting, and copper links up to 100 m can be attached through the integrated Ethernet port that uses the POWERLINK 100BASE-TX physical layer. The control loop can be closed every 800 µs at the minimum task cycle time, and 64 kB of remanent variable memory preserves key parameters through power cycles. This allows the controller to handle fast machine events while keeping important retained values available after shutdowns.
The serial channel moves data at up to 115.2 kbit/s across distances reaching 900 m when shielded cable is used, enabling connection of legacy HMIs or barcode readers. A front USB service port can source 0.5 A to peripheral devices, and 7 W of X2X backplane power is available to supply adjacent I/O slices. Application data that needs high-speed retention is buffered in 1 MB SRAM, while a separate nonvolatile memory area keeps important stored values available after power loss. These interfaces support local service access, station expansion, and reliable retention of control data during normal operation.
