The X20CP3484-UPS is a central processing module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed at the head of an X20 node, it executes user logic, manages time-critical tasks, and provides uninterruptible control during a power dip. By combining CPU resources with local and remote I/O access, the unit coordinates motion, safety, and standard automation functions within distributed machine architectures.
Its computing platform uses a 266 MHz Celeron-compatible processor that handles deterministic control loops and communication protocols. The controller is equipped with 32 MB SDRAM for real-time code execution, while a separate CompactFlash slot allows removable storage for application files and other data. Three interface slots, two USB ports, and an RS-232 channel rated up to 115.2 kbit/s support common communication and service connections. The shortest cyclic task can be scheduled at intervals as short as 800 µs, which suits high-speed packaging, printing, or inspection duties where precise timing is required. One X2X backplane link distributes power and data to adjacent slice modules, and each USB receptacle can supply 0.5 A for service tools or low-power sensors.
Nonvolatile application variables are stored in 1 MB SRAM, allowing machine counters and recipes to remain available through a brief mains outage. Relay contacts can switch up to 10 A, enabling direct actuation of solenoids or indicator lamps without intermediate relays.
