Product Description:
B&R Automation includes the X20CP1585 CPU module in its X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The device functions as the central processor within distributed PLC architectures, executing control logic and managing deterministic communication on the X2X real-time bus. By integrating computing power, memory, and local power distribution, it provides a compact control core for packaging lines, material handlers, and other machine-level automation. It can coordinate local I/O updates, communication traffic, and application execution from a single module, which helps reduce the need for separate control hardware in compact cabinets.
The unit employs a 1 GHz Intel Atom E640T processor that handles real-time tasks in combination with 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM for code and data buffering. Its deterministic performance includes a shortest task cycle of 200 µs and a typical instruction time of 0.0044 µs, allowing sub-millisecond reaction to field events. Nonvolatile resources include a CompactFlash slot, 256 kB of remanent variable space, and 1 MB of battery-backed SRAM for user data. A single interface module slot supports additional fieldbus connectivity, and the USB service port can source 0.5 A to connected service devices. This mix of processing and memory resources supports application code, motion libraries, and local visualization tasks within one controller.
The controller feeds field terminals with 24 VDC at up to 7 W over the X2X output channel while its backplane draws no more than 1.5 A from the control supply. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for mounting inside a protected cabinet. Mechanical integration is straightforward because the housing measures 150 × 99 × 85 mm and weighs 400 g, permitting high-density layouts on DIN rail. This small footprint and modest mass also reduce mechanical stress on cantilevered DIN rail fixtures. Thermal loading remains moderate during normal operation, so the controller can run continuous logic and bus tasks without additional cooling hardware.
