Product Description:
The X20CP1486 CPU module is manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed at the head of an X20 slice station, it executes control programs, schedules deterministic tasks, and exchanges real-time data with remote nodes over the system backplane. By combining processing, memory, and interface resources in a single housing, the module provides a compact controller for coordinated motion, sequencing, and data acquisition tasks in factory automation lines. It is suited for machine sections that require fast logic updates, coordinated communication between local slices, and centralized handling of process signals.
Processing performance is supplied by a Celeron 650 MHz processor that completes a basic instruction in only 0.0034 µs, while cyclic activities can be triggered at minimum intervals of 200 µs. The core is supported by 64 MB SDRAM for dynamic program execution, a 256 kB L2 cache that reduces memory latency, and 1 MB SRAM for user-retentive data. A separate 256 kB region stores remanent variables so parameter sets survive power cycles. One CompactFlash slot and one interface slot permit local expansion, and the integrated RS-232 channel transfers diagnostics at up to 115.2 kbit/s. The controller draws 2.2 A maximum from the internal DC rail and can forward 7 W of X2X bus power to stacked I/O slices, allowing mixed digital and analog modules to operate without an auxiliary supply.
Mechanical installation is simplified by the enclosure dimensions of 150 x 99 x 85 mm, which leave space for cable ducts in compact cabinets. All terminations remain finger-safe because the housing carries an IP20 rating. The field side is energized with 24 VDC, and the switching path tolerates currents up to 10 A, allowing the module to actuate contactors, lamps, or pneumatic valves directly. The compact form also helps when the controller must share limited rail space with power supplies, network couplers, and protection devices.
