The X20CP1484-1 is a central processing module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Serving as the control core within a modular I/O rack, the unit executes application code, manages backplane communication, and coordinates field-level data exchange for industrial automation cells. By combining processor resources, task timing, and nonvolatile memory in a compact housing, it provides deterministic operation for motion, sequencing, and data collection tasks on factory floors.
The module is equipped with a Celeron 266 MHz compatible processor that works with 64 MB SDRAM to store the active program, buffers, and diagnostic data. An instruction cycle time of 0.007 µs allows single Boolean operations to be completed in nanoseconds, supporting precise interpolation and tight control loops. Typical internal demand is 10.5 W of base power, and a backplane supply delivers the required 2.2 A CPU/X2X input current so the carrier can be sized correctly. One CompactFlash slot enables removable program storage, and a single modular interface slot lets the user add fieldbus or specialty channels without expanding the chassis width of 150 mm. With a depth of 85 mm, the unit fits standard control cabinets while keeping airflow paths clear.
For cyclic execution, the controller offers a shortest task cycle of 800 µs, letting independent tasks refresh fast-changing process variables without overloading the scheduler. A USB service port supplies 0.5 A, which is useful for handheld devices or HMI accessories, while the X2X link can source 7 W to downstream I/O nodes so external power taps are minimized. Retained data capacity allows a maximum of 64 kB for remanent variables, and the dedicated user RAM section provides 1 MB of battery-backed SRAM for high-speed recipes. Real-time clock resolution is 1 s, which is adequate for event stamping and shift reports. Physical height is 99 mm, matching other X20 modules so all parts share the same DIN-rail clearances.
