The X20CP1483-1 central processing unit is produced by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed as a compact IEC controller, it manages local and remote I/O, motion commands, and HMI data within industrial automation cells. By inserting this CPU into an X20 backplane, the system gains deterministic task handling without requiring an external PC, which helps reduce panel depth while maintaining networked connectivity.
With a clock frequency of 100 MHz, the processor executes instructions in 0.09 µs, giving application code ample bandwidth for sequential and arithmetic operations. The module contains 64 MB SDRAM for dynamic variables and buffers, and a single CompactFlash slot allows removable program storage. One interface slot accepts communication modules that extend fieldbus connectivity beyond the native Ethernet port. Electrical load on the system bus remains modest because base power consumption is 6 W, and the logic section is protected by an IP20 enclosure intended for installation inside a control cabinet. An x86-compatible architecture also supports existing B&R Automation Studio projects that rely on standard instruction sets.
The controller supports a real-time task cycle of 1 ms, and the built-in Ethernet channel provides 10/100 Mbit/s links for diagnostics or SCADA access. Cooling is fanless, so the unit can operate without forced airflow. Physical space requirements are limited to 150 × 99 × 85 mm, which helps in dense cabinet layouts. A downstream USB jack can supply 0.5 A to connected devices, and the user retains 128 kB of nonvolatile SRAM for recipe data that survives power loss. The X2X backplane can also deliver 7 W of output power to attached slices, allowing additional I/O modules to be powered directly from the CPU carrier without auxiliary wiring.
