Product Description:
The X20CP1483 central processing module is produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It serves as the CPU in decentralized control stations, coordinating I/O slices and forwarding data to higher-level networks. By embedding a dedicated processor and several communication interfaces, the device executes user programs, manages deterministic tasks, and exchanges real-time status information with remote drives, sensors, and actuators. Mounted directly on a DIN rail beside other X20 modules, it reduces cabinet space, eliminates separate backplane wiring, and permits flexible expansion in machines ranging from packaging equipment to process skids.
The module’s processor runs at 100 MHz, and each instruction completes in only 0.09 µs, allowing precise motion sequences and high-speed logic branching. Program data resides in 32 MB SDRAM, which supports fast dynamic buffering. Deterministic communication is handled by the integrated Ethernet interface that negotiates full- or half-duplex transfers at 10/100 Mbit/s. A maximum input current of 2.2 A is drawn from the system bus, and overall power consumption is limited to 6 W. The X2X motion bus delivers 7 W of output power to downstream slices, while its supply channel consumes 1.42 W. Serial diagnostics are possible through an RS-232 port that supports cable lengths up to 900 m and data rates up to 115.2 kbit/s.
In cyclic operation, the controller issues tasks every 1 ms, ensuring timely synchronization with fast peripheral modules. Retentive data such as counters or recipes is stored in 128 kB SRAM, which remains powered by an internal capacitor during brief outages. A front-panel USB port provides up to 0.5 A for service accessories such as wireless adapters. The housing measures 150 mm in width, 85 mm in depth, and 99 mm in height, allowing installation beside standard 24 V power supplies inside shallow cabinets.
